Samsung’s latest advertisement shows us everything that was wrong with all the iPhones that have come out so far in the past decade.
In traditional Samsung fashion, the company’s USA arm has launched an advertisement that doesn’t just mock the new iPhones by Apple but celebrates the iPhone’s 10 year anniversary. Obviously, Samsung doesn’t honor Apple or anything but instead stays true to its title ‘Samsung Galaxy: Growing Up’. It shows how the galaxy brand has matured over time and has proved that the iPhone was always inferior when it came to features. Samsung does that by showing us the journey of an Apple fanboy in the past 10 years who gets jealous of the Samsung’s flagship phone every time he faces a problem with his newly bought iPhone. The fanboy has been using the iPhone since day one for about 10 years.
The ad starts in 2007 which marks the official introduction of the original iPhone and we already start seeing the first problem that has plagued iPhone users who were standing in a queue for hours and hours to buy the latest iPhone.
It then jumps directly to 2010 when the storage capacity on the iPhone 4 was very low against the competition and the guy couldn’t take a photo due to a shortage of storage.
In 2013 when the world was moving towards bigger screens, the iPhone was still using a small 4-inch display which looked paltry in comparison to the newly launched galaxy note which had a stylus. In the ad, we can see the guy being jealous of the Note user who uses a stylus to take down a phone number.
The Apple fanboy is still waiting in line to buy the latest iPhone in 2015 even when it is raining heavily. Anyone can make out from his face that he is not happy about it.
After finally buying the iPhone he drops his phone in the water a year later in 2016 while he was trying a prank on his friend. His friend had a galaxy s7 by the way which was water resistant and as you might’ve expected, the galaxy survives and our poor guy had to place his phone in a bowl of raw rice.
Cut to the launch of iPhone 7 when the apple fanboy opens a box of his shiny new iPhone. He is not particularly pleased to find out that Apple ditched the 3.5 mm headphone jack and replaced that with a dongle. We can see him using a dongle to charge his phone and use earphones to watch a video at the same time. He glances at the Samsung galaxy s8 which is charging wirelessly while he is living a dongle life.
Samsung has highlighted the problem with all the previous iPhones excellently and how the company’s flagship was superior to the iPhone in many ways. The fanboy gets so annoyed with his iPhone that he throws it away in a drawer and buys the newly launched galaxy note 8. The ad ends with the guy passing by a bunch of people waiting in a queue to buy the iPhone X while he finally feels good about his decision to upgrade to the new galaxy.
